Some RM2.5 million in electricity bills will be saved at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) due to the collaboration of TNB’s subsidiary company, GSPARX Sdn Bhd (GSPARX) to install solar panels.
The solar panel project started last July.
Ipoh City Council mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin said that the project will last for 21 years.
“The use of solar panels is in line with the smart partnership with TNB to provide clean energy.
“In August the UTC managed to save around 22% on electricity,” after visiting the centre yesterday.
Also present was Perak TNB’s chief retail officer, Ir Mohd Azhar Abd Rashid.
Similar projects will be extended to other sites like the Perak Stadium, Stadium Indera Mulia and the Tuanku Zara Aquatic Centre in line with the council’s 2030 plan.
“Our hope is for a minimum carbon footprint and also to save on electricity costs. Projections show that 47 trees can be saved in a year and lower carbon release by 70% ,” said Rumaizi.
