The Ipoh City Council and the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore new and more use of the bamboo also known as “Bambusoideae”.
Bamboo is known to absorb carbon released into the atmosphere.
The MOU is also in line with the “Sustainable Development Goals” of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization ( INBAR).
The bamboo plant can also be put to many other uses in construction in countries like China, America and Indonesia.
Meanwhile, personnel from the Landscape Department from the Ipoh City Council toured the facility in Sungai Siput to learn more about bamboo.
Among the scope of learning was the structure of bamboo, selection process, treatment, construction and more.
The Ipoh City Council has currently used bamboo for structures in their parks in Dataran Bandaraya, Taman Rekreasi Gunung Lang dan Taman DR Seenivasagam.
Present at the tour was Prof Ts Dr Mohd Hamdan Ahmad, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the UTM and Ipoh City Council’s Landscape Director, Meor Abdullah Zaidi Meor Razali.
