Traffic lights in Ipoh just went hi-tech with artificial intelligence (AI) at the intersections of Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Laksamana, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz, and Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan Raja Ekram,
It is expected to reduce traffic congestion by 51 per cent during peak hours and save time and cost for road users.
The Ipoh City Council has worked with Telekom Malaysia (TM) to implement the “Stars” AI system.
Present at the launching ceremony was State Exco for Youth, Sports and Multimedia Khairul Shahril Mohamad and Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin at the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC).
The AI system at these four intersections involved will help reduce the rate of carbon emissions by 7,500kg per month.
Soon, the whole state will be implemented with this AI system in line with Ipoh’s vision 2030 for a low carbon city.
