In conjunction with Ipoh City Day celebrations, the 36th in the series since 1988, the council organised several events and programmes for the employees and residents, among them a competition to judge the best kept and clean eateries and toilets 2024.
The competition was open to food outlets, petrol kiosks and supermarkets licensed by the council.
A total of 14 food premises and 12 private public toilets in petrol kiosks and supermarkets participated in the competition.
The premises were assessed with the assistance of three councillors’ representatives on August 13 and 20.
For the Restaurant @Cafe Cleanest category, Restoran People Park Sdn Bhd emerged the winner and received RM1,500 and appreciation certificate.
Second place went to Restoran Tandoor Grill (JMJ Food & Beverages Sdn Bhd) and took RM1,000 and appreciation certificate, Restoran Brother & Sisters Food Hub Sdn Bhd came in third to take home RM500 and appreciation certificate.
Seven other premises received consolation prizes of RM250 and certificates.
In the cleanest public toilets at petrol stations (Shell) Bahakhi Petromart Jalan Hospital came out tops and was awarded RM1,500 and appreciation certificate.
Second place winner was (Shell) Kinta Urus Sdn Bhd, Susuran Lebuhraya Utara (Meru) which received RM1,000 and appreciation certificate, while (Shell) DN Petromart Jalan Kuala Kangsar captured third spot to take home RM750 and appreciation certificate.
Three other petrol kiosks which participated in the competition were given RM250 and appreciation certificates.
For the Best Clean toilets in supermarkets, the the first place went to Aeon Mall Ipoh Klebang which received RM1,500 and appreciation certificate, runners up was Aeon Ipoh Station 18 which was given RM1,000 and appreciation certificate, while Aeon Mall Kinta City Ipoh took their prize and RM750 and appreciation certificate.
Three other supermarkets received RM250 and appreciation certificates.
Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud who officiated the event and presented the prizes said, “the public, tourists and licence holders of food premises can access MyGred MBI at http://mygred.mbi.gov.my to check status of cleanliness at restaurants which had been visited.
“This will indirectly promote clean eateries and food outlets to visitors and tourists.
“The council had increased monitoring at food establishments to ensure cleanliness, appearance of food handlers, places of food being prepared and sold and clean toilets to achieve (BMW) status Bersih, Menawan Dan Wangi (Clean, Attractive, Pleasant, Smelling),” he added.
