Several non-government organisations (NGOs) joined forces to conduct a health screening camp in Ipoh.
They were the Diabetes Association Malaysia Perak branch, Sathya Sai Baba Centre Ipoh Centre, Persatuan Pembangunan Insan Sikh Perak, Rotary Club of Kinta together with Hospital Raja Perempuan Bainun Ipoh.
The event was held at the Sai Setia Kasih Nursing Home (SSK) along Jalan Silibin last Sunday.
The campaign also saw a good turnout of volunteers and members of the public.
The Sai Setia Kasih Centre has about 140 inmates, many of whom are mostly patients discharged from the Mental Hospital in Tanjong Rambutan.
They are unable to be cared for by their families due to various reasons.
The centre provides active mental rehabilitation plus drug and alcohol rehabilitation service.
Meanwhile, the SSK organisation is a privately run service for these patients
It has full time staff members and is managed by Dr S. Vijayan, an ex Perak Medical Health Department staff.
The inmates are housed at the centre and are provided with food and lodging and visitation by family members.
The four organisations provided health screening like -blood pressure check, blood sugar, body weight and height eye screening through a mobile eye screening set up courtesy of the Sikh association, ECG, Pap Smear, Breast Exam and Urine check.
Among the doctors who had volunteered on the day were Dato Dr Jasvinder (Ophthalmology),Dr Lee (OnG Specialist) and Dr Ng (Cardiologist)
The service activities by the Sathia Sai Baba Centre members consisted of nail cutting, hair cutting and shaving, basically self care service for the inmates in the centre.
Breakfast was also provided for all the volunteers too.
All the above activities are regular projects by these four organisations as a service to mankind and the local community.
