For only the second time in the history of Perak Malayalee Association, a woman was chosen to lead the association for the 2025-2027 term at its AGM held at its premises on April 19.
Sarala Govindan Nair who was the former Deputy President was elected unopposed.
“It is an honour to be elected especially after a long gap for women to lead the association and I can work with anybody,”she said.
The last time a woman assumed the top post was Dr P. Komalam who served in the position from 1985 to 1993.
She replaces Gopi Subramaniam.
Others elected into the committee unopposed were Deputy President Rajendran Subramaniam,1st Vice President Bhaskaran Kunjiraman, 2nd Vice President Shobhna Nair Kujoo, Honorary General Secretary Datin Dr Ramani Subramaniam, Honorary General Treasurer Armanathan Nair Sankaran Nair, Honorary Assistant General Secretary Jaya Linda Balan and Honorary Assistant General Treasurer Ramanitaram S.Kasi. Another 11 committee members were also elected.
Executive officer Pirakas Rao who represented Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar at the event also announced a contribution of RM5,000 from the wakil rakyat towards the association’s activities.
