The Ipoh City Council honoured 176 of it’s  employees including 55 women with excellent service awards while another 60 were chosen to receive proficiency awards at a function held at Casuarina Meru Hotel here on May 15.

The excellent service recipients also received BSN Premium Savings certificates worth RM1,000, appreciation certificates and commemorative gold coins.

While those who excelled in proficient category were presented with the premium certificates worth RM400 and appreciation  certificates.

The proficiency awards is a special recognition to staff who not only performed well in their tasks but also demonstrated outstanding character and their active involvement in community and social activities.

The event was officiated by Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching.

In her speech, she said,” I appreciate the commitment and achievement of the council which had won several awards locally and internationally.

“The excellent service should continue to help the council to be the envy of other local authorities in the country,”she added.

On another note, she observed that the council’s employees assigned to do cleaning and clearing work has to work late night to ensure the cleanliness is up to optimum level.

“Such work has to be improved especially with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 to ensure the city is clean all around to attract locals and foreign tourists,”she added.

Meanwhile Council Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak who represented the mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, said the recognition will inspire employees to strive for higher achievement to make Ipoh City as one of the top councils in the country.

“We have to work and move forward as a team to celebrate success and tackle shortcomings.

“This year should be the turning point to continue providing excellent service to residents of Ipoh and to achieve the vision of Smart and Prosperous City status,” he added.
