
The AHF–Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy and the Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Ipoh organised a three-day “Basic Knowledge and Rules of Hockey Workshop” held at the MU Hotel in Ipoh recently.
A total of 24 participants attended the program, which focused on both basic coaching and umpiring aspects of hockey.
The workshop was officiated by YB Dato’ Haji Zainol Fadzi Paharudin, Member of the Academy’s Board of Trustees, on 6th February 2026 while the closing ceremony was officiated by Dato’ Haji Roshidi Hashim, also a Member of the Academy’s Board of Trustees, with the presence of Dr. Hamidah bt Samsudin, Director of Institut Pendidikan Guru, Kampus Ipoh.
Sessions were facilitated by distinguished experts, namely Lim Chiow Chuan, former Hockey Olympian and FIH Educator, who led the coaching modules and K. Kanaisan, former international umpire and FIH/AHF Educator, who conducted the umpiring modules.
The program successfully achieved its objectives by equipping participants with essential knowledge, fostering enthusiasm for hockey, and strengthening collaboration between educational institutions and hockey development bodies.

The workshop aimed to provide foundational knowledge of hockey, covering both theoretical and practical aspects. It was designed to promote the sport among educators, students, and community members, ensuring sustainable growth at the grassroots level.
Among the highlights of the program included both theoretical and practical sessions.
The main objective of the program was to introduce participants to the fundamentals and rules of hockey, to enhance knowledge of coaching techniques and player development, to strengthen understanding of umpiring standards and officiating practices and encourage the growth of hockey among schools, clubs, and communities.
According to M. Selvakumaran, secretary of the organization, “the Basic Knowledge and Rules of Hockey workshop successfully achieved its objectives by equipping participants with essential knowledge in both coaching and umpiring.
“With the expertise of distinguished facilitators and the support of the Academy’s Board of Trustees and Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Ipoh, the program provided valuable insights and practical exposure, laying a strong foundation for the continued growth of hockey in Malaysia,” he added.
