Several NGOs got together to organise an event known as “An Evening with Beautiful People” for 40 individuals and children from homes and schools at a hotel in Ipoh.
Among them were the Penang Cheshire Home, Rumah Amal Chesire Pulau Pinang, Cerebral Palsy Association of Penang, Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Jalan Hutton, School for Neuro diverse Children, Sekolah Pendidikan Khas Kanak-Kanak Neurodiversity, Caring Rehabilitation Society of PWD Penang and Persatuan Pemulihan Penyayang Orang Kurang Upaya Pulau Pinang.
The occasion is the result of a shared vision, sincere collaboration and the collective goodwill of Penang Cheshire Home, Lions Club of Ipoh Mandarin,Lions Club of Ampang City Garden,Malaysia International Students Exchange Club, Ca Lau English Language Centre and Excelsior Hotel and Seemsoon Hotel.
The event was officiated by Alor Pongsu Assemblyman Noor Azman Ghazali. Also present were representatives and caregivers from the homes.
While dinner was served the children and adults entertained the crowd with dance performances and songs. Noor Azman also presented certificates of appreciation to representatives of the homes and individuals.
Organising chairperson Yvonne Tan Yee Wen in her speech thanked Penang Cheshire Home for initiating this meaningful event and for bringing the Penang Chesire Agoonoree to Ipoh.
The home is more than a welfare institution which is a community that nurtures confidence, independence and gohope for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.
The group also visited several places of interest in Ipoh, Sitiawan and Taiping during the weekend.
The Penang Cheshire Agoonoree is an annual inclusive scouting camp for people with disabilities organised by Penang Cheshire Home since 2006.
Among the objectives is to empower people with disabilities (special scouts ) physically, spiritually and mentally by giving them meaningful roles within society.
The event is modelled after a jamboree approach – a structured and supportive camp with activities that foster personal development, community interaction, teamwork and confidence .
