The Ipoh City Council conducted  the Testing and Handover Session of the CCTV System in Jelapang town to monitor security surveillance recently.

The initiative comes under the Black Spot Area Recovery Action Plan. The testing was implemented in conjunction with Safe City Programme 2026.

Present were Jelapang state assemblyman Cheah Pou Hian, council secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak and councillor Twoon Kok Kay.

Based on the crime index statistics for 2020 to 2025, Jelapang town has  been identified as one of the high risk areas which prompted a proper intervention through a smart technology monitoring implementation.

In view of this the installation of CCTV is a proactive and strategic measure to support  efforts to prevent incidents of crime. The CCTV is equipped with high definition visuals,strategic location coverage and capability for continuous recording which can be monitored in a systematic method.

This system will support the enforcement action, investigation and immediate response by police and the council. The session included a technical briefing, a preview of the system to ensure the specifications are met and operational preparedness.

It also included a presentation of the Safe City Programme 2025 completion report by Town Planning Assistant Director Anis Zulaikha Ahmad Kamal and Public Works Senior Assistant Director Izdihar Niszar Syafiq Sarlan.

Ahmad Munir said the council reaffirms its commitment to strengthen and enhance urban safety..

“This is done through a data driven approach and strategic collaboration among the relevant agencies including the council, police and representatives of the local community.

The implementation of the system is the result of collaboration of the council, police, immigration Perak Anti Drug Agency,  Perak Social Welfare Department,technical agencies, local community and the Kinta Branch of the Perak Hawkers and Petty Traders Association.

The successful implementation of the system would be a benchmark to expand the Safe City Program to other areas in the future.
