The Oath-Taking and Appointment Ceremony for the Councillors of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) for the term 16 March 2026 to 15 March 2028 was held yesterday at the Ipoh City Council.
The ceremony was officiated by Puan Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, Chairperson of the Perak State Housing and Local Government Committee, together with the Zamakhshari Hanipah, Mayor of Ipoh.
Also in attendance were Members of Parliament, Members of the Perak State Legislative Assembly, the City Secretary, and Heads of Departments of the Ipoh City Council.
In her speech, Ng emphasized that the appointment of Councillors is not merely a recognition, but a significant trust that demands a high level of responsibility, discipline and commitment. According to her, every decision and action at the local authority level has a direct impact on the daily lives of the people.
She also stressed that Councillors must act as effective bridges between the government and the community by going to the ground, understanding local issues, and ensuring that public complaints are handled proactively, effectively, and consistently. “The people judge the government by the solutions they experience, not merely by plans or reports,” she said.
As the largest local authority and the only city council in the state of Perak, the Ipoh City Council carries an important role as a leader in urban governance and service delivery. In this regard, Ng stressed that MBI must continue to strengthen administrative efficiency, improve service quality, and serve as a benchmark for other local authorities in the state.
She also reminded that public expectations for urban services are high and encompass daily aspects such as cleanliness, infrastructure maintenance, public lighting, and solid waste management. Therefore, every complaint must be followed up with tangible solutions, continuous monitoring and clear feedback to the public.
At the same time, she highlighted the importance of close cooperation between Councillors and the council’s administration to ensure that every policy and action is implemented comprehensively and effectively, without the existence of a silo work culture.
In line with the vision of “Ipoh as a Smart Regional City Based on a Sustainable and Prosperous Smart Ecosystem” and the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030, the Ipoh City Council is expected to continue strengthening its role as a driver of inclusive, sustainable, and competitive urban development.
