Hong Kong citizen, Ahmed Khan is a keen hockey fan making his trip to Ipoh to watch the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2022 which is currently in progress here.
Such is his passion for the sport, he has been coming to Malaysia since 2001 when the tournament was initially played in Kuala Lumpur.
He missed out on coming to ipoh for the last two years due to the Cocid-19 pandemic lockdown.
This time around, he is back again in Ipoh to follow the SAS Cup and also met up with his old friends, namely Amarjit Singh who is the organising secretary of the tournament, Perak Hockey Association (PHA).
Then he met up with the favourite emcee of the tournament, the evergreen and spontaneous K T Pillai with whom he had formed a great friendship over the years.
“I am now a committee member of the Shaheen Hockey Club in Hong Kong. My involvement in hockey goes way back as a player in the 1977 Junior World Cup held in Kuala Lumpur,” added Ahmed.
He likes Malaysia so much that he has also applied for the MM2H programme to move here.
“Me and my wife love Malaysia, the people and the food. That is why we decided to move here,” added Ahmed who has two grown up children.
Although he is now semi-retired, he used to work as a supplier of electrical equipment during his working career.
“Once I move here on a permanentĀ basis, I hope to make someĀ investments in the property market or even in some sporting activity,” said Ahmed to Ipoh Hyperlocal.
Well, this is surely sports tourism working at its best !
