Delegates from Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand attending the IMT-Growth Triangle (GT) Green Cities Mayor Council and Green City Action Plan 2023 meeting here from Aug 7 to 9 had a tight schedule.

The meeting is specifically aimed at discussing the collaborative network of the three neighbouring countries to realise green initiative action plans.

It is also to address various issues including environment, social, responsible resource management, reduction of pollution and waste. 

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad who chaired the meeting said it is a platform between the three countries to carry out coordinated efforts for sustainable management of natural resources. 

The outcome and conclusion of the meeting would be announced at the chief minister and governors forum to be held on September 27 in Batam,  Indonesia. 

Apart from presenting papers and discussion,  the delegates were taken on a tour of several heritage sites and tourist spots in the city. 

They were also entertained to a cultural festival which showcased the uniqueness of the Malay, Indian and Chinese cultural performed by Selangkah Dance Group and Anggini Dancers from Teluk Intan and Ipoh Wushu Lion and Dragon Dance Quan Ji Association at the Amphitheatre at Taman DR Seenivasagam. 

The meeting concluded with a gala dinner attended by Saarani and Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud together with leaders of the delegation including head of the Thailand group led by Haadyai Mayor Lieutenant  General Sakorn Thongmunee,  Indonesia head Tuan Ahmad, Sub Regional IMT-GT Centre Director Firdaus Dahlan and Asian Development Bank’s Cooperation Regional Expert Antonio Ressano.
