Ipoh City Council embarked on a programme to ease the burden of 15 non Muslim children of the council staff as well as those non council employee’s children in the B40 category by providing them with scholarships.

The students are pursuing courses in diploma and foundation bachelor degree courses in public universities.

Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud presented the scholarships worth RM600 at an event held on Sept 29.

Present were the council’s Non Muslims Affairs Committee chairman Chung Cum Cheong, P. Lawrence, sub committee chairman for Non Muslim Affairs, councillors and heads of departments. 

Rumaizi said the aid will help the students to pay their fees and other expenses. 

The event is one of the programmes undertaken by the council’s Non Muslim Affairs Committee. 

Such programmes had been implemented since the Movement Control Order (PKP) which was carried out with the cooperation of  Government agencies, NGOs and the private sector in line with the council’s objective to help overcome the financial burden  of the residents in the city.
