Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud officiated the World Toilet Day 2023 for the council level here yesterday (December 14).
The theme for this year’s event is “Accelerating Change for Safe Sanitation”, reflecting the ongoing growth of efforts to speed up the necessary changes that will result in safe sanitation practices at the global level.
The event is held annually to inspire people to tackle the global sanitation crisis where 3.5 billion people live without proper sanitation.
It is also to create awareness among the public on the importance of a well equipped sanitation and sustainable system in line with the objective of the 6th Sustainable Development (water and sanitation) to all by the year 2030.
In conjunction with the World Toilet Day, the council organised a competition for two categories of clean toilets – Public Toilets in Public Places and Toilets in Petrol Kiosks.
A total of 81 public toilets in shopping complexes and 118 toilets in petrol stations were checked and evaluated.
In the public toilets category, AEON Ipoh Klebang emerged winner and took home RM2,000, appreciation certificate and souvenir.
Shell Petrol Kiosk Jalan Hospital took the top prize for the clean toilets in petrol stations.
They also received RM2,000, an appreciation certificate and souvenir.
The council also presented appreciation certificates to winners of six premise owners who competed in the “Toilet of The Year Award” organised by the Local Government Development Ministry in August this year in Shopping Complex, Air Conditioned Restaurants, Hotels and Petrol Kiosks categories.
The council also gave RM2,000 to Masjid Muhammadiah Taman Tasek Jaya, Ipoh who was declared the winner in the local government level for Cleanliness and Beautification held in conjunction with “Celebrating Visit Perak 2017@Year Perak Green and Clean Campaign”.
The contribution is to appreciate the efforts and cooperation of the mosque committee in keeping the toilets clean and also beautify them as well as the surrounding.
