The Ipoh City Council were big winners at the 66th Merdeka celebrations held at the Indera Mulia Stadium yesterday.
The council won the “Best Dressed” and “Best March-Past” team awards.
Present at the ceremony was the Sultan of Perak Raja Nazrin Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah along with Ipoh Myor Dato Rumaizi Baharin and council secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak.
Thousands of spectators gathered to celebrate the independence day.
The Ipoh City Council team were clad in a traditional; Malay warrior attire which won the hearts of the judges.
The outfit was created by Puan Faridah Abdul Aziz from the council’s corporate department.
They won a cash prize of RM5,000 each for the two category win.
The council team was represented by 55 members from the various departments. They have been training from August 1, 2023 for the event.
The Sultan of Perak also inspected a guard of honour and gave away the prizes.
