The Ipoh City Council has been selected as the first local authority in the state and in the north zone of the country to implement a pilot project to resurface roads known as Cuplump Modified Asphalt (CMA).
The other local authority picked for the project is the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud said the coagulated rubber modified asphalt paving method will improve the quality of surfacing which will reduce effects of cracks, rutting and also extend the lifespan of the paved roads.
“It will also cut down on maintenance costs in the long run compared to conventional methods.
” CMA technology could also stand heavy load on the road which is suitable in industrial areas and main roads,” he said in a statement today.
It is also high resistance to extreme weather conditions and also prevent damages to fuel spills from vehicles as well as reduces greenhouse carbon emissions.
Rumaizi said the RM5 million allocated would be utilised for road repairs and resurfacing works for a distance of 9.5km stretch.
It will partially cover Tasek Industrial Area, partial IGB Industrial Area, part of Jalan Bendahara and some parts of the main road located at Station 18.
Work is expected to commence in the middle of October and will take four to six weeks to complete.
