Deepavali celebrations in Sungai Siput were hosted by its Member of Parliament S. Kesavan at the Arena Pavilion compound.

During the event, guests received good news on a proposal to build a multi purpose hall costing RM300,00 at a site next to a field at Taman Tun Sambanthan for the benefit of the public.

“They can rent the hall at a cheap rate rather then getting halls for rental at higher rates.

“Once we receive the allocation from the Government, construction will begin,” he added.

Another project  is to put up a LED screen at the entrance of Sungai Siput town.

“This is to welcome visitors as well as  advertise information and announcements from the Government and also greetings during festive seasons .

“The cost would be borne from my MP’s allocation and I hope the installation will be completed by the end of this year,” he added. He also presented cash Deepavali packets for the needy children.

He also brought up the issue to compel employers to provide free housing facilities in estates once they have worked for 20 years.

“After retirement the workers have  to fork out to pay rent..it is a financial burden .

“For this to be enforced amendments must be made to the existing Act 446,” he added.

Under the Act employers must provide Employees’ Standards of Housing Accommodations and Amenities Act 1990 (Act 446).

Meanwhile guests including Perak Exco member in charge of Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry, Datuk Zolkafly Harun, district government officials, community leaders, village heads and others numbering about 2,000 enjoyed the night of songs and dances and traditional food.
