Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud called on the various quarters including from the private sector to organise more sporting events and traditional cultural concerts to attract tourists especially foreigners.
He pointed out that overseas visitors tend to spend more when attending and enjoying such activities.
Rumaizi was speaking at the launch of the Octagon Mooncake Festival jointly organised by the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) and Ipoh City Council here last night
The event was officiated by Housing and Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming. Also present was PCCCI President Datuk Liew Chee Ming.
PCCCI also hosted the Paloh Street Food Paradise.
Rumaizi also noted the moon cake festival is not only significant to the Chinese community but also provides an opportunity to the other races to understand the community’s culture to forge close ties among the ethnic groups.
Ipoh City has the potential to promote its unique products and the various cultures and activities at tourist spots to attract visitors.
