The  “Walkable City Ipoh Town Special Area” project is in the final stages with only some fine tuning to be done.

This is in line with the Ipoh City Council’s aim of making the city  a Heritage and Low Carbon Tourism City in the future.
According to Ipoh mayor, Dato Rumaizi Baharin, five study areas covering 577 acres have been identified and divided into zones.

They are namely Zone A, Taman Dr Seenivasagam; Zone B, Old Town Ipoh; Zone C, Kinta River; Zone D, New Town Ipoh and Zone E, Greentown.

“Among the aims of the study is to improve the surrounding area by providing 19.6km of pedestrian walkways and 0.6km of conducive bicycle lanes that are sufficient and sustainable to improve accessibility and offer alternative mobility to the local community.

“Also, we will maintain the value of the city’s heritage while supporting the growth of development that prioritises the environment, green technology and a low carbon footprint to enhance the added value and resilience of the city,” he said.
