Ipoh only 5-star hotel in the city centre is the WEIL Hotel.
Located along the busy Jalan Sultan Idris Shah in the heart of the city, it offers some 313 comfortable and charming rooms.
What more, the hotel’s building is also linked to the top shopping mall in the city, The Ipoh Parade.
Leading the team at the hotel is their general manager, Michael Quah who comes with years of experience in the hospitality industry.
Michael was previously with the Hilton group serving in Singapore, the Philippines and China.
The Hilton group is one of the biggest hotel chains in the hospitality industry.
Ipoh Hyperlocal had a chance to catch up with the busy general manager in Ipoh recently.
“Although I had never worked in Ipoh or even in Malaysia before, I was up for the challenge to take up this offer.
“I always believe in bringing up the mindset of my colleagues and associates to the next level to deliver the expectation of our guests and meet other challenges in the industry.
“Not to forget, we also have to meet the expectation of the owners too.
“Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, we had managed to weather the “storm” and are now looking forward to brighter days ahead,” added Michael.
During the pandemic, he has also picked up new skills to learn gardening and fishing.
“I managed to do a lot of gardening which brings satisfaction and relaxation when one sees the final results.
“Perhaps, this also applies to my management style, I am also a “people person” and result orientated which is to lead by example and walk the talk,” added Michael.
On a personal note, he loves Ipoh food which has a long list of favourites like curry mee, chee cheong fun, hor fan, dim sum and more.
“Like anything spicy, so there is no problem taking me to any food outlet.
So where does he intend to go once the international borders are open ?
“I would love to make a trip to China as I have many friends and colleagues during my tenure there. It would be great to catch up with them again,” said Michael.
