In an effort to keep the city clean and to create awareness among the public and traders that used cooking oil can bring in revenue, Ipoh City Council launched a recycle used cooking oil campaign here on Friday.
The event was officiated by Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud at Dato Sagor Food Court.
Among those present were Council’s senior officers, councillors and circular economic strategic partners from Syarikat Biovisma Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Tuck Soon Eco Resources (M) Sdn Bhd and representative from Perak Coffee Shop Keepers Association.
Circular Economy which is also known as Waste to Wealth would stimulate economy and provide opportunities for petty traders and small industries to be part of the recycle programme.
The campaign is also to raise awareness for traders not to dispose used cooking oil into drains, instead sell them to increase their earnings.
Grease traps must be installed at food premises and it must be cleaned and maintained daily.
Otherwise disposing used cooking oil would cause stench and floods due to drains being clogged.
Based on statistics, 95 percent of 2,926 person food premises had complied with the ruling.
