Some 500 people attended a Deepavali Open House hosted by Malim Nawar state assemblywoman V. Bavani Shasha with the cooperation of Pertubuhan Pembangunan Sosial dan Kebajikan Masyarakat India Kampar at SJK (C) Mambang Diawan on November 14.
Present were State Human Resources National Integration Health and Indian Affairs Committee Chairman Datuk A. Sivanesan together with Government officials, police personnel , representatives NGOs and local community leaders.
For Sivanesan it was the first official function after being conferred the Datukship by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on his 69th birthday celebrations on November 7.
Sivanesan together with Bavani lighted the kuthu vilakku to officiate the event.
The crowd while having their dinner were entertained to cultural dances and songs.
The hosts also brought in Malaysian singer, songwriter and composer Krish K who took to the stage to belt out several songs.
Sivanesan and Bavani went around the table to meet the people who took the opportunity to pose for photos with them.
Some of the crowd went home with 60 lucky draw prizes.
Bavani also presented cash Deepavali packets to children and adults.
