The Lions Club of Perak Silver State together with seven other Lions Clubs and with the collaboration of the office of Ipoh Barat Parliament organised a Chinese New Year celebration not only for the Chinese community but others residing at the Kinta Heights Basketball Court recently 

Residents received Mandarin oranges and ang pow packets from Ipoh Barat MP and Deputy Minister (Law and Institutional Reforms) in the Prime Minister Department – M.Kulasegaran.

 A lion dance performance was among the highlights of the gathering. .

Lions Club of Perak Silver State Chairman Dr Richard Ng said:”We want to bring people from all ethnic groups with the objective to foster closer unity although it is held in conjunction with Chinese New Year.

“The attendance by the people is a testimony to the response from them to programmes organised by us,”he added.

Earlier Kulasegaran, Dr Ng along with VIPs tossed the yee sang to usher in prosperity in the New Year..

The attendance was also briefed on environmental recycling to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and mitigating climate change.

Meanwhile Kulasegaran in his speech said:”Such programmes should be emulated by other NGOs to bring in Malaysians from diverse backgrounds together. “At the same time the anti littering and recycling programmes held during the celebration sends out an  important message to the public,”. 

Kulasegaran also praised Ng who would always go down to the ground to find out the problems faced by the unfortunate. He also announced an allocation of RM5,000 for Ipoh City Watch to support the association’s activities.
