A total of 1,500 residents participated in the Pertandingan Sukan Rakyat held in conjunction with the Ipoh Low Carbon Day program at Dataran Ipoh recently.
The attendance goes to show the spirit of unity and city sustainability
The event which kicked off at 7am to 10am was aimed at promoting healthy living style, sustainability and local cultural heritage.
It was launched by Ipoh City Council councillor Twoon Kok Kay. Also present were the council’s town planning director Zainal Abdul Hamid and the Council’s Doughnut Economy City Unit Secretariat Head Dr Zulqarnain Mohamad.
The presence of the crowd from various age groups is proof of support towards the development of the inclusive smart city initiative,friendly community and sustainability.
Among the competitions were traditional games which brought in team cooperation and also valued cultural heritage.
The program also integrated low carbon element to encourage the people to walk to the location and reduce single use plastics throughout the event.
ILCD is a strategic initiative to transform the city to a more green surrounding, involvement of community in physical,social activities which brings about impact to the environment .
Making sports for the rakyat into ILCD is a testimony of the smart city agenda and environmental sustainability is in line to maintain the local cultural heritage which will enhance the identity of the city’s community .
