The Ipoh City Council added another trophy in their closet after they were declared as winner of the Local Authorities Choir Competition for the Perak Menteri Besar Cup 2023 held at the Indera Mulia Stadium here on October 26.
The runners up spot was grabbed by Tanjung Malim District Council, and while Taiping Municipal Council took third place followed by Manjung Municipal Council who took fourth place.
Ipoh City Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin@Md Daud officiated the competition participated by 10 out of the 15 local authorities in the state.
Rumaizi in his speech said:”the competition would create a big impact in the development of choir in Malaysia which will bring out the best from the competitors and the choir teams.
‘” It is also in line with the council’s objective to make Ipoh as a city of art.
“To achieve this the council encourages all forms of art to be organised including art, music, craft and sound,”he added.
In line with the effort, the council had created Lorong Seni at Lorong Panglima which operates every Saturday from 9am to 1pm.
The Mayor noted the time might be extended or it will also be opened on Saturdays as well on Sundays based on the demand.
Looking back, Ipoh was famous for having an arts training centre which churned out popular talents and singers. Among them are Michelle Yeoh, Jamal Abdillah, Sheila Majid among others.
