Calling for participants for the 6th Lantern Making contest to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 20 are required to use recyclable materials in creating the lanterns.

Organising Chairperson Alan Hew said:” they have to utilise primarily recyclables while additional items are not considered recyclables.

“However buttons, sequins and others which are not categorised as recyclable items are permitted to create the lanterns. These should not constitute more than 30 percent of the materials used in the design,”he added.

Lights for the lanterns must be sourced from LED  batteries. No candles are not allowed.

This is an off site challenge as participants with no age limit are allowed to complete their lanterns at home and bring them to Ipoh Parade shopping complex registration counter for judging.

The size and dimensions of the lantern must not exceed 75cm x 75cm x 75cm .The completed lanterns must be able to be carried around and not like table lamp type which will not be accepted.

The submission dates for the lanterns are on September 18 from 3pm to 10pm, and 19 and 20 from 10am to 2pm. The prize giving ceremony would be held at Ipoh Parade Main Court on September 20 at 8.30pm.

The champion would receive RM500,a trophy and certificate, 1st runner up would receive RM300 trophy and certificate while the third placed winner would go home with RM200, trophy and certificate.

Ten consolation prizes,trophy and certificate would also be given. Special highlight would be the lantern  parade with the LED Lion Dance Troupe.

This year’s theme ” Moonlight Fiesta-Mid-Autumn Together” aims to promote Chinese cultural heritage,foster child community spirit.
