The first edition of the Low Carbon Day this year organised by Ipoh City Council diverted from the previous events with extra ordinary activities following collaboration with CUEPACS,National Union of Local Authorities Employees (ANULAE) and Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry here on January 25.

This time around the focus among others was on no plastic campaign and usage of reusable water bottles and bags.

A statement from the council stated the edition which attracted some 3,000 people with the theme “Street For People,Not For Cars” highlighted the importance of sustainable mobility in the city.

The closure of the roads for vehicles turned Persiaran Bandaraya into a dynamic community space and at the same time enabled the residents to enjoy recreational activities, education  on environment and social interaction in a safe and environmentally friendly surrounding.

The no plastic campaign held was to encourage the public and visitors to bring along reusable water bottles and bags.

Also included in the program was a collection of used cooking oil to be processed into biodiesel.

To ease the financial burden of the people, the organiser held a MADANI Rahmah Sales for the public to  purchase essential consumer items at affordable prices.

The Green Innovation and Technology Hub promoted urban sustainability solutions including an exhibition of an electric car (EV)  which is aimed at reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Visitors also had the chance to visit recycling exhibition booths and enjoy green products promotion.

The CUEPACS Fun Run @ Ipoh Low Carbon Day 2026 was also flagged off with the participation of 2,000 participants for the five kilometre distance.

The event was officiated by CUEPACS Deputy President 1, Azman Shah Abdul Rahman and the council’s Councillors  Whip Wong Kar Keat.
