A total of 7,306 packets of nasi briyani were snapped up within an hour at the Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II here recently. 

Persatuan India Muslim Perak (PRIM) distributed the packets which started at 3.30pm for the public to break fast.

Its chairman Mohamed Arib Aliah said :”The crowd converged one hour earlier to the venue.

“The distribution is a tradition which started in 2014 with the cooperation and support of the mosque. The dish was cooked on a gotong royong basis to be distributed to the local community. It is also to share the blessings with the people from all races,” he added.

Initially It started off from 1,000 packets and gradually increased to 2,000 and 3,000.

Last year 5,000 packets were given out. Among those who distributed the packets were Perak Islamic and Malay Customs Council President Tan Sri Mohd Annuar Zaini.
