It was a great honour for Ipoh City when the German Ambassador to Malaysia H.E. Dr. Peter Blomeyer visited the city recently.
The ambassador’s visit was to the Ipoh City Watch in Kinta Heights to see for himself the green initiatives undertaken there.
Dr Bloemyer’s main interest is in the environment and he saw for himself the various initiatives being carried out to address the issue of climate change.
“We are honoured to have such discussions as ICW have been championing environmental issues to ensure our future generations will be protected from Climate Change.
“Our concern is the mechanism and seriousness in tackling mitigation issues especially on carbon compensation,” said Dr Richard Ng Ipoh City Councillor and president of Ipoh City Watch (ICW).
The ambassador was also briefed on what ICW has done including educating the public on embracing recycling culture through ‘trash2cash’ and ‘trash4food’ programme.
These included the innovative recycling bins and demonstrated our trashed plastics to decorative bags programmes that help women to generate supplement income and help reduce plastic pollution.
The measures are in line with Ipoh City Council’s Low Carbon and Walkable City mission 2030.
At the end of the tour the German ambassador planted a bamboo tree to commemorate his visit. The week-long visit to Ipoh also includes a trip to Royal Belum Forest.
