Good news for some 1,000 small traders in Ipoh.

The Ipoh City council will exempt their rental for June in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin that the move will help ease the financial burden of these traders.

“The small traders have been greatly impacted by the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) and we hope that the rental exemption will help their situation.

“Among those who will benefit are those at the Ipoh Central Market and food courts under the jurisdiction of the Ipog City council,” said Rumaizi.

In the meantime, he advised Ipoh residents to adhere to all SOPs at all times  in view of the pandemic.

In another development, Rumaizi said that an allocation of RM3 million has been provided for the proposed Kinta Riverwalk Development project.

“The allocation is from the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA). It will also help small traders to set up their businesses and also attract tourists to Ipoh.

“The project is a continuation of the Kinta Riverwalk Development proposal is a continuation of the Ipoh Heritage Trail which aims to create tourist attractions in the city” he said.

The project is divided into three locations, the first being in front of Kinta Riverfront Hotel from the Jalan Raja Musa Aziz bridge to the Lim Bo Seng Road bridge spanning 1,600 metres. 

In another development the Ipoh City Council issued a press statement to order the closure of the city’s recreation parks, namely, Taman DR Seenivasagam, Padang Sultan Abdul Aziz (Padang Polo), Padang Ipoh, Gunung Lang dan Pavilion Petting Zoo@Gunung Lang.
