The Ipoh City and Nanning city signed a memorandum-of-understanding (MOU) to renew their pledge of friendship, cooperation and mutual benefit.
The ceremony was held at the M Roof Hotel here.
Present at the signing ceremony was State Exco for Housing and Local Government Ms Sandrea Ng and Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin.
Representing Nanning City was Ms Huang Wen, Deputy Governor People’s Government of Xingning District of Nanning. Also present was Mr. Zhou Youbin, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Penang.
Ms. Huang Haiyan, deputy director, Department of Foreign Affairs Nanning city signed on behalf while Dato Rumaizi signed on behalf of Ipoh City.
For the information of the general public, the first MOU was signed in April 1, 2005 in Kuala Lumpur by the then Ipoh Mayor, Dato’ Hassan Nawawi Abd Rahman (6th mayor of Ipoh) and Nanning deputy mayor Ms Xiao Yingzi.
The MOU aims to foster cordial relationships between the two cities and promote understanding between the people of Malaysia and China.
Among the sectors of interest are Economy, Science & Technology, Commerce, Education and Sports.
Nanning has also contributed greatly during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Ipoh City Council received two ventilators from Nanning city in 2021 for the use of the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun here.
Throughout the 18-year friendship between the cities, they have cooperated in many fields like for the economy, science, culture and sports.
Nanning City is also known as the “Green City”, because of its abundance of lush subtropical foliage. Located in the South of Guangxi, Nanning is surrounded by a hilly basin, with a warm and humid climate.
