It  was a two in one event organised by Ipoh City Watch and Lions Club of Perak Silver State, recipients received groceries in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations while bringing in trash for cash at Kinta Heights flats on Oct 18.

The public and residents are encouraged to bring in the trash for cash.

Club Region 5 Chairperson Dr Richard Ng said:” we want to make the event a double occasion and create awareness among the public not to dispose of bottles and other materials indiscriminately.”

Some 100 people attended the event who also received coupons to exchange for groceries at a nearby shop for them to prepare for Deepavali. Some of them also brought in unused bottles and other items.

Ng noted in the past that contributions were targeted for the community celebrating the respective festival.

However this time around, he noted, Ipoh Barat MP M.Kulasegaran requested people from all communities to be identified to receive the aid.

He also handed the coupons donated by him to the recipients. Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran who was present reminded the people to keep the surrounding clean.

“Avoid throwing garbage and other unwanted items into  Sungai Kinta which runs near the flats,” he added.
