An historical event took place on July 26 at Taman DR Seenivasagam to celebrate the Silver Jubilee in conjunction with storing of “Ipoh Millennium Time Capsule” here.
The symbolic event brings back memories of the special initiative implemented in July 2000 when former Perak Menteri Besar Tan Sri Tajol Rosli Ghazali buried the time capsule.
It was a close cooperation with Kelab Lions Ipoh and Kelab Lions Malaysia lead by a prominent Lions Club member Datuk Foo Wan Kien together with Ipoh City Council (MBI) then lead by Datuk Seri Talaat Husain, then the fourth Ipoh City Mayor.
Present were several VIPs, Lions Club members Prof Richard Ng, Ms Oon Peng Lam and representative from Ipoh City Donat Economy Secretariat Dr Zulqarnain Mohamad.
Based on the initial plan, the Ipoh Millennium Time Capsule would be opened 100 years from the date of storing by the then Ipoh City Mayor and Lions Club Malaysia President at that time as the heritage symbol and continuation of the city’s vision of leadership.
The event not only reminisces historical values and the previous generation rather a catalyst for a progressive future vision for the residents.
Meanwhile, Councillor Wong Kar Keat in his address stressed the importance of continued collaboration among NGOs like Lions Club with local authorities including MBI to realise the vision of making Ipoh a liveable, sustainable, progressive and inclusive city.
Ipoh Lions Club Governor Tan Say Cheong commended MBI for its support to various community programmes.
He pointed out the cooperation as an excellent model for a progressive and a competitive community.
