Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK) had adopted seven Taman Rekreasi Madani in the city to maintain the parks as part of their CSR programme.

The adoption followed by the signing of a MoU with KLK represented by its Executive Chairman Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian and Ipoh City Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah at Taman Rekreasi Madani (TRM) Canning here  today (July 27).

Earlier Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming officiated the opening of the park which is among the 14 TRM developed in the city.

The initiative would take place from this year to 2027 whereby KLK would maintain and take care  of the parks.

They are Taman Rekreasi Madani (TRM) Canning itself, TRM First Garden, TRM Pengkalan Barat, TRM Westpool Park, TRM Woodland Park 1 and Park 2 and TRM Bandar Baru Putra.

Oi in his address said:” KLK would carry out maintenance work at the parks through grass cutting, leaf raking and removal of dry branches and litter.

“Our mission is to ensure the parks are clean and safe for the surrounding communities.

“It is also setting a standard for the various municipalities to upgrade and be more conscious of their important roles.

“For us at KLK this is more than just another initiative, it reflects our core values and commitment as an organisation in delivering a positive impact to people and the planet in a sustainable way for our future generations.

“If we can achieve more than just being a maintenance team..hence we are partnering with the often neglected component of our society like NGOs of ex-prisoners and drug rehabilitation in the  upkeep of the parks and earn an income.

“It is also to enhance the all-inclusive Madani concept,” he added.

The initiative is more meaningful as KLK’s roots have long been grounded in Ipoh.

It’s involvement in the Taman Angkat Madani initiative stands as a clear reflection of KLK’s ongoing commitment on giving back to the community to serve and protect the environment and the future generations.

Meanwhile Nga said the involvement of KLK in adopting and maintaining the parks is a kick start and hope more entities will come forward to contribute for a good cause.

He also commended KLK for their commitment to maintain  the parks.

Every two weeks KLK will send workers to clean up, add fertilizer to plants and also do other maintenance work.

He also pointed out the ministry had allocated a sum of RM5.4 million through the Local Government Department to build 14 TRM in Ipoh.

Each project will cost RM450,000 and is expected to be completed by the end of this month.
