
Perak Sultan Sultan Nazrin Shah officiated the official opening of the Sunway Medical Centre in Tambun, Ipoh.
The RM430 million hospital introduces Perak’s first PET-CT scan and advanced surgical robotic-arm system.
Also present was Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.
Others in attendance were Perak Menteri Besar YAB Dato’ Seri Saarani Mohamad, Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Sir Dr Jeffrey Cheah, Sunway Healthcare Group president Dato’ Lau Beng Long and Perak state government officials.
SMCI marks a significant expansion of Sunway Healthcare Group’s portfolio in the country, becoming its fifth hospital in its network, which also includes five ambulatory and complementary care centres as well as Sunway Sanctuary, a senior living residence.

The healthcare group is targeting a nationwide hospital capacity exceeding 3,400 beds by 2032, with new developments planned in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, Johor, Putrajaya, Seremban Sentral, Paya Terubong in Penang and Kota Bharu in Kelantan.
The expansion underscores Sunway’s long-term bet on Malaysia and Southeast Asia’s growing demand for premium healthcare services.
