The Ipoh City Council will take over the collection of household rubbish from its contractors tomorrow (Dec 1, 2021).
Although it is a temporary move, it is expected to resolve the numerous complaints of “non-collection” against the appointed contractors since September.
Ipoh Mayor Dato Rumaizi Baharin said that despite numerous fines and warnings, the contractor has not met expectations.
“We hope to resolve the issue of household rubbish collection by end December.
“We will utilize part of the newly secured lorries and other equipment for this purpose. We will also employ more workers to ensure smooth operations,” he added.
This is seen as a measure to ” troubleshoot” the persistent problem with the contractors who faced labour shortage due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
