Persatuan Kebajikan Amal Makmur Negeri Perak honoured four individuals and an association for their contribution to the society and the association at the Jelapang Square Event Hall here recently.

Among them were Vejayam Sinnasamy (health), Neaman Ngah Kechil (social service), Jennifer Leong Pe Lee (leadership), Palnisamy Kumarasamy (education) and Pertubuhan Pembangunan Insan Sikh Perak (community awareness on eye health).

Ten representatives from Government agencies, NGOs and corporate sector who are well wishers and supporters of the association were also honoured.

They received appreciation certificates and mementos from Batu Gajah MP and Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau Chairman Dr V.Sivakumar who also officiated the event.

It is a platform for the individuals to be honoured for their dedication,commitment and sincerity for the well being of the community.

At the same function, Sivakumar was also honoured and presented with a gift for obtaining a Doctorate in Business Administration from Asia e University  and Masters in Political Science from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia .

In his speech, he said the event is very meaningful to him and  thanked the association for their appreciation.

“I hope this recognition  sends out an important message especially to the young generation and the elderly. Learning never ends regardless of  age and position..it will strengthen leadership and equip ourselves to serve the community effectively,” he added.

On another note, Sivakumar praised the association for their active involvement in eye screening programmes for school children.

He promised to bring up  the matter in the next Parliament sitting on the importance of eye screening in schools.

Earlier association secretary K.Nachemutu urged the government to look into carrying out eye screening in schools similar to dental care.

“This should begin from pre school which will  create awareness on the importance of eye sight,” he added.

Meanwhile eye specialist Datuk Dr Jasvinder Singh gave a talk to the attendees on early detection of bad eye sight.
